Why this claim can be verified

The unsettling part of services like this is that you cannot verify anything: you do not know whether your name will be resold to the next person, or how long the records will survive. We address the first problem by publishing the entire registry.

14
Stars claimed

Every claim is written to the public registry immediately, and anyone can look it up.

786
Stars still available

Each star is allocated exactly once, and leaves the pool the moment it is claimed.

The registry is plain text — no account and no payment needed to read it.

How it works

Fill in and pay

At checkout you provide the display name, an optional dedication, and the email address for the certificate. You can choose to stay anonymous.

We allocate a star

The system randomly assigns you a star that has not been claimed yet, and generates the PDF certificate and permanent link page.

Get the email and share

Within minutes you receive an email with the certificate and permanent link; the link renders a card when shared on social platforms.

Claim a star of your own

US$29 · One-time payment, includes a PDF certificate and a permanent link page. Checkout is handled by Lemon Squeezy as the Merchant of Record, and supports ordinary fiat payment methods such as credit cards.

Claim a star

Next you enter the claimer name and an optional dedication, then continue to checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Is this official naming by the International Astronomical Union (IAU)?
No. Scientific naming of stars is administered by the International Astronomical Union, and we cannot and do not claim to provide official naming. What this service offers is a commemorative, publicly verifiable claim: the star itself is real, and the coordinates, magnitude, spectral type and distance on the certificate come from public astronomical catalogues — but this claim confers no naming right over any celestial body, and will not be used by the astronomical community as an official name. Please confirm before ordering that this matches what you expect.
Could my star be claimed by someone else too?
No. Each star in the pool is allocated exactly once, is written to the public registry the moment it is allocated, and the allocation runs serially so two orders arriving at the same instant cannot take the same star. Anyone can search the star identifier in the public registry and confirm there is only one record. If a duplicate ever occurs through our mistake, we refund it unconditionally or reprocess it.
What can I do with the claim afterwards?
You can download the PDF certificate (printable, displayable), share the permanent link on social platforms (optimised for the X share card), or simply keep it as a record belonging to the two of you. The permanent link is never deleted, and does not depend on you keeping the email.
Do you offer refunds?
This service delivers an instantly generated digital keepsake, so we do not offer refunds for reasons other than quality — please confirm this before buying. If the problem is on our side — a duplicate allocation, an incorrect certificate, or a payment that produced no certificate — we will contact you within 24 hours and refund unconditionally or reprocess it.
How soon after payment do I get the certificate?
Usually within 1–3 minutes, and never more than 5. The checkout completion page also states that the certificate will be sent to your email address. If you have not received it within 24 hours, write to support@star.org with the email address you used at checkout and we will resend it manually.
Will my personal information be made public?
The public registry contains only the star identifier, the display name, the dedication (if any) and the claim date. Email addresses and order details are never written to any public file. You can choose anonymous display at checkout, in which case not even the display name appears on the public page or in the registry.
Why can't I pick my own star?
The system randomly assigns one unclaimed star from the pool, so everyone has the same chance and nobody can know in advance which star they will get. Every claim therefore corresponds to a real, naked-eye star (fainter ones are easier to see away from light pollution), and it removes the hesitation and waiting that a "pick your star" step would introduce.
